DANIEL ANDREI, MCGILL UNIVERSITY
CO-PRESIDENT

Daniel Andrei is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University, which he joined in 2018. Before 2018, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Anderson School of Management, UCLA. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance in 2012 from HEC Lausanne, Switzerland.

Daniel investigates the role of incomplete information and learning in financial markets. His research has been published in several journals, including the Review of Financial StudiesJournal of Financial EconomicsManagement Science, and the Review of Economic Studies. He currently serves as an associate editor at Mathematics and Financial Economics and teaches undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. courses.

DAVID CIMON, PUBLIC-SECTOR FINANCIAL RESEARCHER
TREASURER

David Cimon is a financial markets researcher for a public-sector organization. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto in 2016. He was previously an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University between 2018-2021.

David’s research studies financial market structure and the impact of regulation. It encompases a range of topics, including: conflict of interests in financial markets, market segmentation, financial market design, cyber risk and fintech. His work has been published in the Journal of Financial & Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Banking & Finance and the Journal of Financial Markets.

David has written policy publications on the topics of fixed-income dealing and central bank crisis interventions. During his time in academia, he taught courses on financial management, investment management and microeconomics at various levels including undergraduate, MFin, MBA and PhD students.

SIMON GERVAIS, DUKE UNIVERSITY
DIRECTOR AT LARGE

Simon Gervais is a Full Professor of Finance at The Fuqua School of Business.  Prior to joining Fuqua in 2003, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  He received his Ph.D. in finance from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997. Professor Gervais’ research, which encompasses behavioral finance, corporate finance, and financial markets, has been published in leading finance and academic journals. Specifically, he studies the effects of behavioral biases on the decisions of firms and individuals, the role and impact of ethics in financial markets, and the functioning of the money management industry. Professor Gervais has received the Barclays Global Investors/Michael Brennan Award for the best paper in the Review of Financial Studies. He has also received awards for his teaching in daytime MBA and executive MBA programs. Professor Gervais currently serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Financial Intermediation, and served on the Economic Advisory Committee of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) from 2010 until 2016.

VINCENT GRÉGOIRE, HEC MONTRÉAL
CO-PRESIDENT

Vincent Grégoire is an associate professor of finance at HEC Montréal. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining HEC Montréal, Vincent was at the University of Melbourne.

His academic research interests are in information economics, market microstructure, and big data and machine learning applications in finance. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.

At HEC Montréal, Vincent primarily teaches at the MSc level and is the coordinator for the Ph.D. program in finance. He is a CFA charterholder.

PABLO MORAN, UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY
PROGRAM CO-CHAIR

Pablo Moran is an Associate Professor in the Finance Area at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business. He received his PhD in Finance from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.

Pablo’s research interests include theoretical and empirical questions in corporate finance and governance. His research has examined macro- and micro-level aspects of mergers and acquisitions, and the pricing of public securities offerings. Pablo’s work has been published in the Review of Corporate Finance Studies and the Journal of Banking and Finance.

Pablo has taught various finance courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels in the areas of corporate finance and quantitative empirical methods. At the Haskayne School, Pablo currently teaches mergers and acquisitions in the MBA and BComm programs and courses in empirical methods in the PhD and DBA programs.

MIGUEL PALACIOS, UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY
PROGRAM CO-CHAIR

Miguel Palacios is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business.  His current academic work focuses on the riskiness of education investments, optimal contracts for financing education, and other questions at the intersection of human capital and asset pricing. He is a co-founder of Lumni, which has financed more than 23,000 students through Income Share Agreements (ISAs) in Latin America and the United States and has advised several other firms developing ISAs around the world. He is also a co-founder of A&P Capital, a firm which designs new financial products for retirees and pension funds.  Miguel holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration — Finance — and an M.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia.

GABRIEL POWER, UNIVERSITÉ LAVAL
DIRECTOR AT LARGE

Gabriel Power is a full professor of finance and the IG Wealth Management Chair in financial planning at Université Laval’s FSA business school. His research interests are in derivatives, investments, international finance, investment banking, commodity & energy finance, and financial planning/household finance. His research has been funded by SSHRC, NSERC, CDI and other grants. He holds a PhD from Cornell University. He has taught courses across the three cycles, including PhD-level asset pricing, MSc-level financial theory and corporate finance, and undergraduate project finance and derivatives. He is actively involved with industry on topics including financial literacy and the value of expert advice in finance.

MOHAMMAD RAHAMAN, SAINT MARY’S UNIVERSITY
DIRECTOR AT LARGE

Mohammad Rahaman is a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in International Finance and Competitiveness and Associate Dean of Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement at the Sobey School of Business of Saint Mary’s University, Canada. He holds a PhD in Economics and Finance from the University of Toronto.

His research examines how the ease of access to external financing can be a source competitiveness for firms in the global marketplace. He also investigates strategic interactions among customers and suppliers in global supply chains and the ensuing financing implications arising from such interactions. His research has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of International Business Studies, and the Journal of Banking and Finance. At the Sobey School, he teaches Research Methods and Financial Analytics courses in the Master of Finance and Master of Business Analytics programs. He also oversees the Executive and Professional Development division of the Sobey School of Business.

ANDRÉANNE TREMBLAY, UNIVERSITÉ LAVAL
DIRECTOR AT LARGE

Andréanne Tremblay is an Associate Professor of Finance at Université Laval and co-chair of Chaire iA Groupe financier en assurance et services financiers. She earned her PhD in Finance from Schulich School of Business, York University.

Andréanne’s research lies at the intersection of corporate finance and behavioral finance. More specifically, she has examined different issues in corporate culture, workplace misconduct, pay structures, and mispricing. Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and the Journal of Business Ethics, and was featured in The Economist, NPR, The Globe and Mail, and Ici Première, among others.

WEI WANG, QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY
DIRECTOR AT LARGE

Wei Wang is a Distinguished Professor of Finance at the Smith School of Business, Queen’s University. He was Associate Dean, Professional Graduate Programs and founding director of Queen’s Master of Finance–Beijing program (in collaboration with Renmin University of China) at the Smith School of Business. His primary research expertise is in corporate restructuring, leveraged finance, governance, and financial regulation, with a number of publications in top finance journals such as the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics, in addition to securing five SSHRC grants. He has actively published in practitioner journals and presented his scholar work at over 100 conferences and seminars. His research has been frequently featured in media such as the Wall Street Journal and the Globe and Mail.

Wei has rich experience in teaching the professional graduate programs around the world. Outside the Smith School of Business, he taught professional masters, MBA, EMBA, and ExecEd programs at a number of renowned business schools such as the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School. He has actively developed pedagogical materials, authoring eight Harvard Business School case packages and a book on corporate restructuring published by Wiley. He worked in commodity derivative trading and a fintech startup prior to the academic career.
